Overview
Thru-Freight, alternatively known as chain gang service, is one of the five unique types of road services. This type of service is defined by the following:
- May have defined mile post limit end points.
- Can be directional or bi-directional.
- Has designated at home, and away from home terminals (AFHT).
- Typically assigned employees stay over at the AFHT, after a run.
- May set out or pick up rail cars or train engines en-route.
The difference between thru-freight and pool service, is that pool service has been trip rated.
