Thru-Freight

Overview


Thru-Freight, alternatively known as chain gang service, is one of the five unique types of road services. This type of service is defined by the following:

  • May have defined mile post limit end points.
  • Can be directional or bi-directional.
  • Has designated at home, and away from home terminals (AFHT).
  • Typically assigned employees stay over at the AFHT, after a run.
  • May set out or pick up rail cars or train engines en-route.

The difference between thru-freight and pool service, is that pool service has been trip rated.
